Tattwamayanandaji Maharaj, the ex-Acharya of Belur Math, is a monk of the Sri Ramakrishna order in India. Sri Ramakrishna was Swami Vivekananda’s Guru and was taught Advaita Vedanta by Tota Puri. Puri is one of the 10 monastic orders founded by Adi Shankara Acharya. Acharya is the Sanskrit word for Teacher. Belur Math is the monastery of the order in India.
Tattwamayanandaji Maharaj is currently attached to the Vedanta Society of Northern California as the Assistant Swami. The society was founded in 1900 by Swami Vivekananda. Swami Tattwamayananda is a monk of the Ramakrishna Order and a former Acharya (instructor) at the Order’s monastic Training Center at Belur Math, Kolkata, India. He received traditional training as a scholar in Sanskrit, in Vedic studies and in Indian philosophy with a special focus on Advaita Vedanta and with an additional emphasis on the study of Ramakrishna – Vivekananda literature. He was assigned to various centers of the Ramakrishna Order in India as editor, publisher and teacher. In addition to Sanskrit and Indian philosophy, he has also taught Hindu, Vedantic and Buddhist scriptures. He has often been invited to attend international conferences dealing with traditional Vedic Scriptures. In January, 2012, he was asked by the Order to come to the United States. Currently, he is serving as the Minister-in-charge of the Vedanta Society of Northern California, San Francisco.
