Swami Atmasthananda, in simple language, has presented a deep and inspiring reflection on the multi-faceted motherhood of Sri Sarada Devi. It is a reflection born of his reverent contemplation on her life for many years. This biographical album contains 179 pictures,including almost all available photos of the Holy Mother as well as pictures of persons and places associated with her life.

This pictorial pilgrimage follows the gentle footsteps of Sri Sarada Devi from her birth in 1853 to her passing away in 1920. Swami Chetanananda presents 830 photographs that span the late nineteenth century up to the present, enabling readers to visualize rural Bengal and the spiritual landmarks of India that were touched and sanctified by Sri Sarada Devi, known to millions simply as Holy Mother.

The book comprises of seven sections. Section 1 contains reminiscences and observations by the direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna; Section 2 contains reminiscences by senior monks of the Ramakrishna Order who saw Holy Mother very closely. Section 3 presents essays on the Holy Mother by prominent monks of the Order shedding lights on various aspects of her personality. Section 4 has articles on Her by a number of scholars and devotees. Section 5 presents a symposium titled ‘How the Holy Mother strikes me’.  The next section is another collection of articles titled ‘What Inspires me most in the Holy Mother’s life.’

This volume is the first American edition of the conversations of the Holy Mother, Sri Sarada Devi, as recorded by her disciples, both lay and monastic. The book was originally published by Swami Arupananda, an attendant of the Holy Mother, and translated into English by Swami Nikhilananda. This edition has been edited and introduced by Swami Adiswarananda, present leader of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York.

This is a fourth and thoroughly revised edition of the popular book previously titled Acharya Shankara, an Interpretation.
