The author was one of the first Westerners to become a monk of the Ramakrishna Order, and he had the privilege of close association with Swami Turiyananda and many others of the direct disciples of Sri Ramakrishna in America and in India. This historical account derives from the rich mine of his personal observations.

Swami Atulananda, popularly known in the Ramakrishna Order as Gurudas Maharaj, was born in Amsterdam. At New York in 1899, he briefly came in touch with Swami Vivekananda who left an indelible mark on him. He joined the Ramakrishna Order in 1900.

Writings of Swami Atulananda is a compilation of selected articles written by the swami and published in Prabuddha Bharata, the monthly magazine of the Ramakrishna Order. In this book, readers will be able to get a glimpse of Swami Atulananda’s insightful mind as he shares his ideas on various spiritual topics.
